When we saw the x-ray of Jasmine, our 5 month old Doberman puppy's back leg, our hearts sank. The emergency room vet explained that it was a severe spinal fracture that would require orthopedic surgery to correct.
Jasmine had been playing in the back yard and had gotten twisted up in a roll of landscaping plastic. While trying to escape, she somehow jumped up and twisted her leg. When she came down, the plastic kept her leg twisted in a weird angle and snapped the bones in her right rear leg.
The emergency room vet put a hard splint on her leg and recommended we see Dr. George at Sunset Veterinary as soon as possible.
The next morning we consulted with our normal vet and she highly recommended Dr. George as well.
From the first phone call, and visit to Sunset Veterinary, we knew we had found the right place for Jasmine's surgery.
Dr. George and his staff are so kind and caring. They really put us and Jasmine at ease with the procedure that needed to be performed.
Jasmine's break required a plate and 8 screws to be installed to hold her bone together so it could heal.
1 day after surgery, Jasmine was standing and walking on the leg. During our morning after follow up visit, Dr. George told us "Now the hard part starts". We had to keep a 5 month old, full of energy, Doberman puppy confined to her kennel for 4 weeks. She could only come out to eat and go potty.
Needless to say, it was a LONG 4 weeks for us. Fortunately, Dr. George and his staff were only a phone call away to answer any questions or concerns that came up. Dr. George even gave us his cell phone number and told us to call anytime with any concerns we may have.
When we looked at the x-ray taken after 4 weeks, it was hard to believe. There was no sign of any fractures in the bones. It's been one week since Dr. George gave Jasmine the OK to resume normal puppy activity. It is amazing to see Jasmine run and jump in the backyard again. She doesn't favor the leg at all, and there is hardly any scar from the surgery.
Needless to say, landscaping plastic is no longer allowed at our house!
The Walker family could not be more pleased with the outcome of Jasmine's surgery by Dr. George. We highly recommend his services.
